FTP Agreement for Springbrook Web Design Students

01.26.2010

It’s interesting, the county curriculum requires that students learn about FTP.  However, they do not provide hosting accounts nor do they officially allow teachers to run their own servers for teachers to post their work to.  In opposition to having web design be a theoretical study, web 1 students will begin posting their assigments to my student server at welovewebdesign.com.  Each student will receive an account like welovewebdesign.com/zgordon.

In order to make things clear, students must write out, sign, and get their parents to sign the following permission form.

The Permission Form

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Your student has enrolled in a web design or development class that requires uploading web sites to the Internet.  Your child will receive a free web site to host his or her class work on for the coming school year.  The address will look like http://welovewebdesign.com/zgordon (with the last segment of the address containing the first letter of the first name and full last name).

Students must follow strict guidelines concerning what they may and may not post. Failure to adhere to these guidelines will result in administrative action.  Students must follow these guidelines:

  • No posting personal information (besides name and email) that identifies the student or other students at the school.
  • No posting anything not directly related to class work.

Failure to follow these guidelines will result in lack of computer privileges.  In the event that a student loses the privilege to use the computer he or she is still accountable for all class work and must make arrangements outside of class to ensure that all assignments are completed.

We ask that parents/guardians decide whether your student’s web space is open to the public or password protected.  If a student keeps the site public, he or she can more easily share work with potential clients.  A password protected site will ensure that search engines or web surfers to can not access your student’s work.

Please select from one of the following options, sign, date, and have your student return the form to Mr. Gordon.

  1. PUBLIC – I allow my student to have a publicly available web address, and agree to regularly monitor the content on it.
  2. PRIVATE – I require my student to have a private web address, and agree to regularly monitor the content on it.
