Area of Impact Explained:
This IT article deals with the ethical and social considerations of pirating music from the internet. This article also brings up issues pertaining to one’s privacy and anonymity (when pirating, it depends on the site). Issues on policies and standards of the government towards privacy are also mentioned, as one lower class woman gets sued for $222,000. A single mother has been accused of sharing (and therefore pirating) over 1000 songs on Kazaa and has been sued for a total of $222,000. This is due to RIAA’s new “no tolerance” for pirates.

IT Systems Described:
The economic value of information due to money being lost due to piracy. Organizational policies and standards has to do with what the government will do to pirates in order to find and fine them. Ability to monitor users is also included due to Kazaa tracing the person being sued.
