IT Cafe Update

We have been learning and growing as ITGS students and are taking the discussions up a notch. Please go to the new IT Cafe Guidelines.

ITGS News Article and Areas of Impact

To develop an understanding of information technologies in society we will be keeping a journal of news articles. You will need to have a three ring binder with sections for each of the six areas of impact. Each week you are required to search and read two current news articles related to two different areas of impact. Then you are to write a brief summary of the article. These articles will be due on Thursdays of each week.

Format:

  • Each article should be printed out and put in your binder under a correct area of impact.
  • Each article should have a cover page stapled to it with the following information.
    1. Proper Citation – logged as well in Noodle Bibliography
    2. Article Summary: (This is to be brief and clear.)
    3. Area(s) of Impact your article relates to and an explanation why.
    4. Discussion of the social and ethical issues that surround your article’s topic.
    5. Outline the technology used in the article and explain what people might need to now about this technology.

Journals will be part of your Classwork/Homework grade. They are ongoing and no late journals will be accepted. If you are going to miss class please email me the citations and summaries and then hand in your work when you return.

Each article will be graded out of 10 points (thus you can earn 20 points a week).

  • 1 Points for proper format and citation
  • 5 Points for a clear and brief article summary
  • 2 Points for an appropriate article and correct relevance to the areas of impact
  • 2 Points for discussion around the social and ethical issues that surround your topic.
