Adjusting Hue and Saturation In Fireworks

Here is a look at the before and after screenshots of what we are going to do in this tutorial.

Before and After Screenshots

To start, right click and copy the image below.

Original Ipod

Now, open up Fireworks and select New Document. It will automatically create a canvas the size of the image you copied above. Save the image into your images folder. Name the image "ipod.png"

The first thing we are going to do is play around with the Hue and Saturation options until we get a color that we like. To adjust the Hue and Saturation select the Point tool (press v) and click on the ipod layer. You will see an option in the Properties menu at the bottom of the screen that says Filters. Click on the plus next to the word filters and go to Adjust Color > Hue/Saturation...

Hue and Saturation

Now you can play with the Hue and Saturation sliders until you find a color that you like. Hue will adjust the color and Saturation will adjust the intensity. Don't mess with the lightness.

Adjust Hue/Saturation...

Now we have a color that we like, but the picture on the screen looks horrible! We are going to insert in our own image into the screen. Select the Marque tool (press m) and draw a box around the image. Press delete. Now you should have a whole where the picture used to be.

Delete with Marque

Now we are going to insert in our own picture. Go to youtube.com and take a screenshot of a video that you like. Paste it into a New Document in Fireworks and crop the image so you only see the video.

Crop Youtube Video

Copy and paste the youtube video screenshot into the ipod document, resize it to the right size, and move the layer behind the layer of the ipod. It should look something like the ipod below.

Finished iPod

When you are finished, upload the image to your welovewebdesign page.
